Maggie Tobias, PhD

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Tobias specializes in using evidence-based treatments to address a wide range of problems working with adults, young adults, and older teens. She has expertise in treating anxiety disorders and stress management, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, mood disorders (ex: depression, bipolar disorder), and insomnia.

Dr. Tobias has extensive training and experience utilizing the following evidence-based treatments: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioral Activation (BA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Using these cutting-edge therapies, she specializes in treating the following conditions and difficulties: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder/Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Specific Phobia, Depression/Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder (I & II), Trauma / PTSD, Insomnia, Perfectionism, School/work/athletic performance anxiety, Social isolation, Relationship or marital difficulties, and life transitions.

Dr. Tobias strongly values creating a compassionate and non-judgmental setting where she collaborates with her clients to address their challenges and build more enjoyable and meaningful lives. Her treatment approach explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and incorporates mindfulness and acceptance techniques to help make lasting changes in her clients’ everyday lives. Dr. Tobias finds that this approach adds to her clients’ understanding of themselves and helps them develop greater self-compassion and empowerment in the face of their difficulties.

In her free time, Dr. Tobias enjoys running, baking, and spending time with her husband and dog.

Education and Training:

Dr. Tobias received her dual Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to this, she earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colorado Boulder and a B.Sc. degree Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Family Studies and Human Development. 

During her graduate training, Dr. Tobias worked as a therapist at the Sutherland Bipolar Center and at Mental Health Partners in Boulder, CO, in addition to providing services in CU’s Raimy Clinic and Brain Behavior Clinic. She completed her pre-doctoral internship training at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System, where she specialized in treating PTSD and substance use disorders. Additionally, she served on a national team that provided education and advocacy regarding transgender and gender nonconforming veterans’ healthcare.

Dr. Tobias completed her Postdoctoral training at Foothills CBT, a private group psychology practice in Boulder, CO.
